What would you say if I told you it is possible to build a low cost syrup evaporator that can also be used year round as a smoker? It’s a pretty fun idea for any homestead! Right now is prime syrup season in Northern Wisconsin and we are also processing our venison into snack sticks in our dual purpose smoker.
See our video for the details:
We built a DIY maple syrup evaporator, but we added a smoking chamber! This build can be used year round for everything from maple syrup to a full pig roast. It uses simple cement blocks and is an easy build, much more cost-effective than a commercial evaporator or smoker. We have an abundance of venison and decided to give venison snack sticks a try while we boil down our maple sap. With just a few basic supplies, we made 7 lbs of delicious venison sticks. This was a first for us, but the process was simple and worth the effort. What is your favorite snack stick seasoning? Any advice for us newbies?
