Most of the country is cold and snowy right now, and Wisconsin is no exception. This weather makes for the perfect project weekends though, because there isn’t much else we can do outside at the moment. This weekend we really buckled down and got a good amount of work done on our closet remodel and I wanted to share our progress. How about a few “before and during” photos to start us off?
Here is a look from our master bathroom. The closet is an L shape and wraps around the corner to the left. Ryan’s side of the closet is to the right:
This is the back wall of the closet, where all of my clutter will be stored. I am going to attempt to be very intentional about what I keep, and I want to make sure everything I keep has a home. I think these units will be significantly easier to keep organized than the long wire shelves we had before.
This is the part of the closet that is tucked around the corner. We were able to build into the wall a bit and add some shoe storage. We will also add some hooks to the left wall and a large mirror to the back wall.
Like the bathroom, we still need to add trim and finishes. We always seem to have issues finishing the trim (the bathroom, closet, and nursery are all waiting). I am pretty motivated to get my clothes into this closet though, so I think the trim will be finished fairly soon.

The Designer’s Image closet units and hanging bars are from Menards and come in 3 finishes (white, java, or cottage). They have several shelving/drawer options and even have the option of glass doors. The set up we got (4 cube shelves, 2 shelves, 2 drawers, 4 hanging units) cost us $580 after rebate. We had to save our pennies for a while to get these but it was worth the wait. We were able to get them on sale, plus 11% off rebate.
The shoe shelves are Closetmaid Brand and I was only able to find them from Wayfair. They were $32 each and can be stacked.
The tile is also from Menards. Ragno USA Ballatore 12×24 Porcelain Tile. It runs $3.98 a tile ($1.99/sq ft) but we also purchased that on sale. Menards frequently does 11% off and I believe that is when we purchased, although it may have been on sale as well. We always pick out our finishes and then patiently wait for the best deal. We started our bathroom remodel by buying these tiles a year ago.
Speaking of rooms that need finishing and trim, I just have to show off some progress shots of our master bathroom.
